The Second Narrows Water Supply Tunnel project replaced three aging water mains originally installed in 1948, 1954, and 1978. The 1.1 km tunnel crosses beneath the Burrard Inlet, connecting North Vancouver to the City of Burnaby, ensuring continued reliable water supply for the region.
Quattro Constructors provided labour, equipment, and supervision to place and finish approximately 2,750 m³ of concrete in collaboration with Traylor-Aecon. Working together, the team optimized construction methods and concrete mix designs to improve efficiency and quality. The work was completed in two lifts, with controlled placement and finishing to meet required tolerances, and the use of bulkheads to maintain stability between pours. Quattro also supported the construction of cast-in-place concrete valve chambers.
The project also included a range of civil works and infrastructure activities, such as grading and earthworks, material import and placement, storm drainage, disposal, duct bank installation, and erosion control. Additional scope included staircase installation, formwork, miscellaneous metals, and carpentry, supporting the overall development of the site.
